In case you are wondering what to ponder, to what high ideals to afix your thoughts, during this Lenten season (I know I am!), consider Saint Gabriel Possenti, the patron saint of handguns. According to reports Possenti, a Catholic seminarian, saved the village of Isola, Italy from bandits by shooting a lizard. It was obvious to the bandits that Possenti meant business. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920.

John Snyder, the founder and chairman of the Saint Gabriel Possenti Society writes,

From the life of St. Gabriel Possenti, we observe that holiness and righteous force with the use of handguns can and do coincide. St. Gabriel Possenti used his handgun marksmanship in the rescue of an entire village without causing physical harm to a single human being. Hopefully, people of various faiths, including prelates of the Catholic Church and leaders of other denominations, will take this lesson to heart and even meditate on [Possenti's example] during this Lenten season.
